peggys 		Their role has changed in that they are no longer needed by the little guy to act as in betweens. They now deal with much much larger quantities of shares. Your typical flesh and blood broker now sits at a company like scottrade and only does manual buys and sells for clients whose PC locked up for $25 a pop.

kirand 		The primary role is personal support and ease of use. They may also act as a financial counselor and guide to explain and recommend individual products.

I use both an investment banker and online investing.
