Do you use your credit card for everyday purchases or only for emergency spending?

You know, credit cards were originally intended for emergency purposes only. The basic assumption was that people had enough in their checking/savings account to pay for ordinary expenses out of pocket and a credit card was for sudden, unexpected expenses.

I don't have one. Had one once and got a bit into debt, sorted it out eventually and now only use a debit card, only spend what you can afford!, there is nothing worse than your wages going into the bank - only to be gobbled up by debts. Then you fall into the trap of living off your overdraft, such a nightmare.......

I stopped using credit cards and paid the balance back in 2006, when it became obvious we were heading for a recession.

I have never and will never use a credit card. I have a fund for emergencies only that will cover six months of expenses.

Edit :

It was intended for emergency purposes ! but unfortunately due to Liberals "Love" of living off other peoples money and have destroyed the concept. Don't forget that most bankers are liberal democrats.

LOL it's funny that you ask. The only time I've used my credit cards is on small non-emergency items ($20 or so) to build my credit. Just something small to stay under 30% of my already ridiculously low credit limits for the purpose of buying a house. I hate credit cards. If everything wasn't so dang fico score driven I'd cut them up entirely.

Started out as emergencies only but as the cost of food tripled and my wage didn't change I started having to use it for food

I use plastic for everyday purchases, but I always pay off the balance in full.

One time I accidentally shorted them .23 cents. When I got next month's bill I was hit for a finance charge that was 300% more than the .23 cents I owed. (apparently the interest compounds daily.)

I refuse to even own a credit card. I look at America as a whole who's average american spends 120% of their income with those things and were the real cause for the recession aside from the housing bubble bursting.

I don't use credit cards, period. My mother told me that it would be a mistake to get one, and I took her at her word. Judging from the situation some people are in, I think she was right!

I've never owned a credit card, and never will. I've always lived by the motto: If I can't pay cash for it, I don't need it.
I've had two car loans in my adult life, and have decided I'll never do that again either.
